Violaine Barthélemy was born in Paris and started music at a very young
age (piano, accordeon, ballet). She was
accepted at the National and Regional Conservatory in Nice, and went on to
study singing at the Aix-en-Provence
University.

She studied classical singing with Robert Andréozzi and acquired hands-on
experience with works by Offenbach, Lehar,
Puccini, O. Strauss, Bizet... She was finalist at the Sète Classical
Singing Contest and enrolled at the Sorbonne
University where she worked on a thesis (Diplôme d'Etudes Approfondies sur
l'Ecriture Musicale).She met Pierre
Boulez and Pascal Dusapin, and furthered her craft with François Mellet,
Philippe Degaetz, Hanna Schaer and Birgit
Bauer-Rossaint (Berlin's Deutsch Oper).

She studied mime with Ivan Bacciochi and African dance with Ana Camara,
martial arts with François Liu, Charles Li
and Pierre Ploix, and acting with Claudio Mauro, Alexian Stachnik and
Nadia Baji. She performed in "La Reine Morte"
(Henry de Montherlant) and "L'Annonce faite à Marie" (Paul Claudel), "The
Three-Penny Opera" (Bertolt Brecht,Kurt Weill), "Eurydice" (Jean Anouilh),
"Péronnelle" (original work by Ludovic Emane Obiang).

She also took part in an open-air opera production of Puccini's "Bohème",
directed by François-Xavier Roth, and
in
musical ensembles: 19th century French, German, Ladino, Hebrew and Yiddish
repertory, directed by Avner Itai.

Violaine Barthélemy is fascinated by performing arts as a whole. She took
part in a production of MarcelLandowski's "La Sorcière du placard aux
balais" at the Aix-en-Provence Opera House, and in productions of Benjamen
Britten's "The Little Sweep", Isabelle Aboulker's "Douce et Barbe Bleu" at
the Théâtre d'Asnières. She also
performed in Baroque concerts: Stabat Mater (Pergolese, Purcell, Couperin,
Bach, Charpentier) and various other
-
recitals with piano
accompaniment in Paris, Bagnolet and Saint Denis.
Other productions
include: "Frauenliebe und
Leben"
(Schumann), "Les Chansons madécasses" (Ravel), "Les nuits d'été"
(Berlioz).

Violaine is fond of vocal improvisation and world music. She actually
performed in Jacques Audiberti's "Les Patients", directed by Chloé Dionne,
and "Ygdrasil" (original work based on animal sounds and conducted by
Danielle
Laurent). The latter was produced in Marseille, Ventabren and La Roque d'Anthéron
during the Festival des Origines de la Musique.

Violaine is now working on "Cabaret Lyrique", a new show involving music
by Satie, Poulenc, Kosma and Weill, with
pianist Hiroko Tsuchiya.
